NVD is a major player in the Irish motor industry. Since its establishment in 1980, this wholly owned Irish company has grown from small beginnings to become the strategic partner to distributors and dealers. Its state of the art facilities make NVD the first choice in handling both new and nearly new vehicles. The in-house IT team at NVD has recently called on Dataworks' expertise to develop an innovative mobile tracking application. The system, developed in C# using the .net compact framework utilises mobile devices with integrated 2D bar-code scanner, digital signing and camera along with GPRS technology to locate vehicles and deliveries to car dealers countywide.

The International Academy of Travel (IAOT) was established in 1992 and is now one of the world's longest running and leading travel industry training and recruitment Specialist. Amongst its impressive range of distance learning and on-site courses, the IAOT is now offering KLM Codeco Check-in courses on CD-ROM. Security is an important element to both KLM & IAOT and it was decided from an early stage to develop a system to prevent students passing on their CDs to others. The CD also had to expire within a certain timespace. Dataworks has developed an on-line registration system along with a desktop application which provides KLM with full tracking features and gives IAOT the necessary tools to effectively manage the delivery of the course over time and prevent copying of the CD.

Dataworks will be hitting the road again in March and heads to Cork this time where we will be presenting a technical talk in association with the Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society. The event will take place at 8 pm on the 22nd of March at the Rochestown Park Hotel, Cork
. Shop Floor & IT - Closing the loop
will be the theme of this debate/ presentation and will consist of a one our talk/ case study followed by a question and answer session and tea/ coffee.

In the past 10 years, the different roles between IT and engineering were very clear. While technology has moved on a great deal over recent years to bridge that gap between automation and IT; the cultural differences between IT, controls and engineering are preventing in a lot of cases the adoption of a fruitful collaborative approach to systems integration.

Professionals from Engineering, Controls, Quality and IT will be invited to share their experiences on the subject. The event will provide with a unique networking opportunity between professionals of the automation industry in IT, Engineering and process control. The event is free of charge. Please feel free to invite your colleagues along.
