Dataworks was invited to represent Waterford City Enterprise Board at the launch of the review of the boards throughout Ireland earlier this year. Pictured here alongside Tánaiste Mary Harney (Irish Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment) is Brian Robinson, Dataworks and Bill Rafter, Waterford City Enterprise Board. Established in 1995, Dataworks has since been leading the way in the area of bespoke software development in the South East and is proud to be associated with such an event and to have been selected as Waterford's business ambassador.

Dataworks helps Aventis Pharma in their cost cutting effort by developing a made-to-measure software solution to address their need for increased control and accuracy in the automation of their engineering stores and maintenance functions. The system also allows Aventis to track maintenance hours and apportion costs to cost centres and equipment codes. The developed application also integrates with SAP, updating order, delivery and invoicing details. The Aventis Pharma Engineering Stores Application was developed over the last 3 months and installed successfully earlier this month.

Irish clothing brand, Mananan approached Dataworks to produce an innovative and industry-first website. The Mananan website will serve as promotional tool and on-line shop for the brand as well as playing host to an original on-line competition in which internationally renowned big wave surfers will be expected to participate at. On-line credit card payment processing & shopping cart, a community forum, dynamic news, user registration/login, images upload, video streaming, on-line poll and a content management system are just some of the features that will be developed by Dataworks in asp.NET to support the competition and Mananan brand.

Radio Frequency Identity (RFID) is fast becoming one of the top planned IT investment priorities for manufacturers, logistics companies and even retailers. RFID technology consists of two principal elements: the tag and the reader. The tag is made up of a microchip and an antenna. The information stored in the tag is read by the reader when passing within proximity using UHF frequency (like the old radios). Ultimately, a product can be tracked trough the whole supply chain, from manufacturing to purchase and even its disposal.

The technology is already in place in a number of manufacturing facilities here in Ireland but will become more widespread over the coming years as the tags will become cheaper with the rising demand. Studies have shown that this technology can reduce the cost of handling large returnable items (such as pallets etc.) to up to 8.5% with a payback time of between two or three years based on the current cost of a tag. Some software issues still remain, such as the integration of the technology with an existing IT infrastructure as the technology has not yet reached maturity.

Dataworks has recently developed a series of bespoke solutions for a Waterford-based multinational engineering company, which address these issues, bridging the gap between their existing system and the RFID technology that they currently have in place.
